Teachers’ School Supply Table Seating Guidelines
| Teachers’ School Supply offers over 200 kinds of tables. We carry Activity Tables, Cafeteria Tables, Folding Tables, Outdoor and Picnic Tables, Wood Activity Tables and Computer Tables. You can find out more by clicking here.
The number of children you can seat at one of Teachers’ School Supply’s tables depends on what activity your students are engaged in. The chart below is based on children sitting at a table during meal time. Older children taking tests, or children doing art projects will reduce the number of students you can seat at a given table.
Most chairs are about 18 inches wide. If you allow 26 inches per person, they’ll all be quite comfortable. If you allow, say, 20 inches per person, it could get a bit crowded for older kids.
Some chairs may be wider than others, so measure your chairs (and your students!) before you decide how many tables you will need.
You can figure that you can fit more children in preschool or early elementary than older children or adults, but if you want them engaged in painting or drawing or meal time you may want to figure on one less student per table – just to be safe.

Activity Table Buying Guide
Teachers’ School Supply’s adjustable height metal-leg and fixed leg wood activity tables belong in every classroom. Whether your students are working on art projects, studying or eating, Teachers’ School Supply has just the right table for you. To help you choose the right table for your classroom, we’ve come up with a few things for you to think about that will help you decide.
What shape table do I want?
What size table do I want?
What sort of legs and what leg height do I want?
What sort of top do I want?
What shape table do I want?
Rectangular, round, kidney-shaped and trapezoid shaped activity tables are the most popular. Arts and crafts, study, meeting or dining – you pick the activity and the number of students who will be doing it, and we’ve got the right table for you..
In early childhood classrooms, horseshoe and kidney-shaped tables put the teacher right in the middle of the action! When little ones are close to the teacher, he or she can give them the individual attention they need – when they need it. We also carry flower, clover and octagonal tables that let the student know what is his or her designated space. Top
What size table do I want?
After you’ve measured your room and you know how many students will occupy it, use our handy table seating guidelines. When you measure, keep in mind that you’ll need to allow room to push chairs in and out. And you’ll need “walk around space” to move around each table and from activity table to activity table. Allow about 48”-60” between tables. Top
What sort of legs and what leg height do I want?
Adjustable-height legs
Our adjustable height activity tables come in two leg ranges to fit students from toddler early elementary (low range) and from early elementary to adult (standard range).
Low range table legs adjust from about 16” – 24” high, in 1” increments.
Standard range table legs adjust from around 19” – 30”, in 1” increments.
Adjustable legs are made of chrome-plated tubular steel for stability and lasting value.

Fixed-height legs
Our wooden leg activity tables have fixed height legs. Give us a call at 800 477-7745 and we’ll help you decide which height is right for your classroom. To shop for wooden activity tables from Teachers’ School Supply, click here. Top
What sort of top do I want?
All adjustable height activity tables from Teachers’ School Supply are made of particleboard with a high pressure laminate (like Formica) fused to the top. Laminate tops range from ¾” - 1 1/4” thick. The laminate is impervious to stains from art supplies and food and is easy to sanitize. Our larger tables feature a stability bar underneath the table to ensure that the top does not bow. And we offer a color-coordinated, T-mold vinyl edge banding to protect the table where it needs it most. Top
Colors
Our most popular activity tables come in golden oak or walnut. Grey nebula is also becoming more and more popular. It’s kind of a speckled light grey.
Want to add some color to your classroom? Use a grey nebula top, accented with color banding around the edge. Or go bold! Choose a primary colored table top, available in blue, red, yellow and green.
All wooden activity tables come in solid oak or maple with a clear, non-toxic finish. For a warmer classroom or library, this is the way to go.
