What material do you want the chalkboard made of?
There are high pressure laminate, economical chalkboards and there are high quality, porcelain on steel, magnetic chalkboards.
- Porcelain on steel chalkboards

- High-pressure laminate chalkboards

A special carborundum slating is applied to a hardboard backing to create a uniform textured surface that produces sharp images and erases easily. Duroslate is available in green or black and is backed by a five-year guarantee. For best results, be sure to “chalk-in” the board before its first usage and after every subsequent cleaning.

What type board do you want?
We carry boards that mount to a wall or to a mobile stand that rolls from classroom to classroom on heavy duty casters.
Mobile chalkboards are perfect for shared classrooms, in multi-purpose rooms or classrooms where space is tight. Just move them where you need them and then move them back for storage. Generally our mobile chalkboards are reversible, which gives you twice the board space. Some even have dry erase white boards on the flip side. Our mobile chalkboards feature locking, heavy duty casters. Easy to move where you need them. Stable when write.
Wall-mounted chalkboards are perfect for permanent installations.

What Frame Material do you want?
Although we sell the vast majority of our boards with frames, we do carry unframed boards to replace old, worn-out boards or damaged boards in your classroom. Call us at 800 477 7745 and we'll be happy to help you figure out what size unframed board you need.
Framed chalkboards are made of either lightweight, sturdy aluminum or solid oak.
To give your classroom a warmer look, may educators prefer our solid oak frames. The aluminum framed boards, however, are longer lasting and more economical.

How thick do you want the board to be?
Most chalkboards boards have a ½” or ¼” particleboard back. Thicker boards do cost more, but have less chance of warping than ¼” thick boards. Ghent suggests that if you are choosing an 8’ board or longer, to go with a ½” back.
